ABOUT DENTAL INSURANCE

We are always happy to serve your dental insurance needs and have a very capable staff to help you understand and maximize your dental benefits. We handle all insurance company claims including Delta Dental, United Concordia, Guardian, Aetna, Metlife, just to mention a few. Our staff will accurately submit your claim electronically for prompt payment and always research your benefits prior to treatment.

Out of pocket payments and deductibles will be addressed in the treatment planning stage and, if necessary, Pretreatment Determinations will be submitted on your behalf so you may set up comfortable financial arrangements. (See Office Financial Policy payment options).

We always bring our patient’s needs to the forefront and have your best interests in mind even when our recommended treatment may not be a covered insurance benefit or the insurance benefit is less that is expected. As Doctors of dental health, our relationship is with you, our patient, not with insurance companies. We do not feel it is truly representative of an insurance company to be part of the diagnosis and treatment planning stage. Nor do we believe they should dictate treatment because it is cost effective for them to choose a less costly alternative treatment. Employers sometimes purchase contracts for their employees that cost them less. As a direct result, your dental benefits may suffer.

With YOUR best interest in mind, we ask you for the following:

• Personal Photo ID
• Insurance card presented at office visit
• Insurance company name, mailing address, group number, subscriber name and social security and/or ID number

SOME INSURANCE LANGUAGE EXPLAINED

Deductible-The amount of dental expenses YOU are responsible for BEFORE the insurance company will pay any benefits. The insurance group employer purchased your specific contract and set the deductible.

Co-Insurance-A provision in your contract whereby the patient SHARES in the cost of a covered service. The insurance group employer purchased your specific contract and set the co-insurances.

Allowances-The amount the insurance company will consider when processing the claim. At times this is confusing since our dental fees (which is average for the geographic area) is not always what the insurance company allowance will be. Example: Your benefits may ALLOW 80% for fillings. Sounds fair BUT the payment will be 80% of the insurance company allowance, not 80% of the doctor’s fees.
